Taryn & Dion – Herb House Rose Garden Wedding

There is something really special about a wedding that doesn’t try to be anything other than what the couple actually wants. Taryn and Dion’s wedding day was exactly that.

They took the traditions that felt meaningful to them, threw out the ones that didn’t, and created a wedding day that gave them what mattered most: time together, time with the people they love, and a whole lot of joy.

As a Fraser Valley wedding photographer, these are some of my favourite weddings to photograph. Not because they follow a certain formula, but because they don’t.

A Rose Garden Ceremony at the Herb House

Taryn and Dion’s ceremony took place at the Herb House Rose Garden, surrounded by beautiful gardens and the people who mattered most. And, in true Fraser Valley fashion, the weather forecast had other plans. Rain was predicted.

But somehow, the weather decided to cooperate. The clouds stayed away, the ceremony was able to happen outside, and they got the beautiful garden setting they had hoped for. It was one of those little wedding day wins that you don’t take for granted.

There was no need for the day to feel overly formal or complicated. It was simply about the two of them committing their lives to each other, surrounded by their favourite people. And honestly, that was more than enough.

The Details Were Personal, Meaningful, and Made With Love

One of my favourite things about Taryn and Dion’s wedding was how much of it came from the people around them.

The flowers weren’t simply ordered from a florist. They were grown by friends and family. The crochet flowers were handmade by Taryn and one of her bridesmaids. Everywhere you looked, there were little reminders that this wedding wasn’t just something they had purchased or put together from a checklist. It was something their community had helped create.

Those details might not be the things you see on a traditional wedding inspiration board, but they are the things that make a wedding feel like your wedding. And as a wedding photographer, I love photographing those pieces.

No Program. No Problem.

Taryn and Dion also decided not to have a traditional wedding program. And you know what? It worked beautifully.

Instead of organizing the entire reception around a long list of scheduled events, they gave their guests room to simply enjoy themselves. There were games for anyone who wanted to play. There was an incredible buffet with tons of options. There was plenty of time to sit, talk, laugh, eat, and catch up. Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt like people were constantly being pulled away from conversations because it was time for the next scheduled event. It was simply a great party with the people they loved.

A South Bonson Community Centre Reception

The reception took place at South Bonson Community Centre, and it was the perfect space for the kind of celebration Taryn and Dion wanted. The huge windows brought in beautiful natural light, while the open space gave everyone plenty of room to spread out, mingle, eat, play games, and celebrate. It was relaxed without feeling boring. Casual without feeling like an afterthought.

And most importantly, it gave Taryn and Dion the freedom to actually be present at their wedding.

They weren’t spending the entire reception worrying about sticking to a schedule. They weren’t trying to make sure every traditional wedding moment happened exactly as expected. They got to spend time with their people.

And isn’t that one of the best parts of getting married?

Your Wedding Doesn’t Have to Look Like Everyone Else’s

I think there is so much pressure surrounding weddings to do things a certain way.

You should wear a white dress.

You should have a first dance.

You should have a bouquet toss.

You should have a formal dinner.

You should have a wedding party entrance.

You should have a cake cutting.

You should have a program.

You should have all of these things because that’s what weddings are “supposed” to look like.

If you want these things, amazing! But you don’t have to have them if it doesn’t fit for you.

Taryn and Dion are a great example of what can happen when you stop asking what a wedding is supposed to look like and start asking:

What do we actually want our wedding to feel like?

For them, the answer was simple.

They wanted to celebrate their marriage with the people they loved.

They wanted good food. They wanted time to talk and mingle. They wanted their friends and family involved. They wanted handmade details. They wanted a beautiful outdoor ceremony. They wanted to have fun. And they created exactly that.

A Fraser Valley Wedding Full of Connection

From the Herb House Rose Garden to South Bonson Community Centre, this wedding was full of the things I love most about photographing weddings in the Fraser Valley.

Beautiful locations, yes. But even more than that, connection. The little moments between people. The laughter. The hugs. The conversations. The way friends and family showed up for Taryn and Dion. The handmade details and flowers grown by the people who loved them. Those are the photographs that tell the story of a wedding day. Not just what the wedding looked like, but what it felt like. And Taryn and Dion’s wedding felt warm, relaxed, joyful, and completely their own.

That is what made it perfect.
